Top-rated espresso grinders in brief

Only one grinder in this collection clears 9.0. The 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder Iron Gray is the highest-rated espresso grinder on Espresso Compact at 9.3/10, a review-based score from 393 Amazon customer ratings averaging 4.6. It is also #1 of 5 in our espresso grinder comparison.

In second place, the KINGrinder K6 Manual Coffee Grinder scores 8.6/10 with 983 Amazon customer ratings at 4.6. The 1Zpresso K-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder with Carrying Case follows at 8.5/10.

The top-rated electric grinder is the SHARDOR Conical Burr Espresso Coffee Grinder Electric with Precision Timer 2.0 at 8.4/10, based on 922 ratings and a 4.4 average. The Baratza Encore ESP earns 8.2/10 and has the most Amazon customer ratings in this category, 1,383, at an average of 4.0.

Ratings here are more spread out than on other Espresso Compact pages: 1 grinder at 9.0 or above, 7 between 8.0 and 8.9, 8 between 7.0 and 7.9, 2 between 6.0 and 6.9, and 3 under 6.0.

How to choose a grinder for espresso

Espresso asks more of a grinder than drip or pour-over. These are the points that differentiate the 21 grinders on this page.

Manual or electric

Manual grinders from 1Zpresso and KINGrinder take the top two spots and much of the upper half of our list. They suit people who make one or two drinks a day and do not mind a minute of hand cranking. Electric models such as the SHARDOR, Baratza Sette 270 and Eureka Mignon range save effort and suit households pulling several shots in a row.

Burr size and adjustment

Some listings document burr size. The Fellow Opus 2 lists 48 mm conical burrs with stepless adjustment, the Eureka Mignon Notte lists 50mm espresso burrs, the Eureka Mignon Silenzio and Specialita list 55mm, and the Eureka Atom W 65 lists 65mm burrs. Stepless adjustment lets you make very small changes, which helps when dialing in a shot. The guide to dialing in espresso without chasing a magic recipe explains why that matters.

Dosing and workflow

The Eureka Atom W 65 advertises grind-by-weight, while the Eureka Mignon Notte lists manual dosing only, with no timer. The SHARDOR includes a precision timer. The Fellow Opus 2 lists a catch cup that fits 54 mm and 58 mm portafilters. Think about whether you grind straight into the portafilter or into a cup, and check fit with our espresso baskets and portafilters guide.

What the listing leaves out

Spec-based entries come with watch-outs: several Eureka and Fellow listings do not state motor power, hopper capacity or warranty. That gap is worth confirming with the seller before you commit.

Comparing grinders within one brand

KINGrinder shows how volume shapes scores when owners agree. Its K6 rates 8.6/10 from 983 ratings, the P2 8.2/10 from 354, the K2 7.9/10 from 151 and the K1 7.7/10 from 113. Averages barely move across the four, between 4.6 and 4.7, so the order largely follows how many buyers have rated each model.

The two 1Zpresso grinders work the other way: the J-Ultra and the K-Ultra share one pool of 393 ratings averaging 4.6, yet they score 9.3/10 and 8.5/10. With the same customer data, that difference comes from what each listing documents. If you are torn between them, compare the product pages side by side rather than relying on the gap alone.

How grinder ratings are built

Seventeen grinders carry review-based ratings and 4 carry spec-based ratings. Every score is ours, out of 10, and these are not hands-on tests of grind consistency.

The review-based method weights the Amazon average times a confidence factor at 45%, review volume at 35% and documented specs at 20%. Low review counts pull scores down, which is why the Eureka Mignon Silenzio sits at 7.9/10 despite a 4.5 average from 133 ratings. Grinders with under 20 Amazon ratings, like the Fellow Opus 2 at 7.4/10 and the Eureka Mignon Notte at 7.2/10, are scored on 4 listing criteria within a 4.5-8.5 band. Our methodology page explains the formula.

Frequently asked questions

Which espresso grinder is rated highest?

The 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder Iron Gray leads at 9.3/10. It is the only grinder in this collection above 9.0, with 393 Amazon customer ratings averaging 4.6.

Is a manual grinder good enough for espresso?

In our ratings, manual grinders hold the first three places, led by the 1Zpresso J-Ultra. Manual grinding takes more effort per dose, so they fit best when you make a small number of drinks.

What is the top-rated electric espresso grinder?

The SHARDOR Conical Burr Espresso Coffee Grinder Electric with Precision Timer 2.0 scores 8.4/10. The Baratza Encore ESP and Baratza Sette 270 follow at 8.2/10 each.

Which brand has the most grinders on this page?

Eureka lists 6 grinders, ahead of KINGrinder with 5, then 1Zpresso and Baratza with 3 each. The collection covers 8 brands in total.

Why are Eureka grinders rated below 8.0?

Most Eureka models here have few Amazon customer ratings or fall back to spec-based scoring. Review volume is 35% of a review-based rating, so a strong average with a small sample still lands lower.
